Shyness affects a large number of adults, but also adolescents and children. In all cases, shyness can be overcome if we find the best way to treat the problem. It is very important to help the shy child to overcome her shyness and that is why we have some treatments for childhood shyness.
How to treat childhood shyness?
- Childhood shyness is often not given due attention. Since shy children are quiet, do not participate and also tend to fulfill their responsibilities, they do not fall into that group of problematic children who occupy all the attention of parents and psychologists. But childhood shyness must be treated and if it is from the field of psychology, much better.
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy seems the best solution for cases of childhood shyness, as well as for treating pathological shyness in an adult. With this treatment it is possible to modify the child’s harmful behaviors that only perpetuate shyness and negative automatic thoughts that prevent the child from advancing in their development are also eliminated.
- In the case of shyness in children, most psychological therapies are accompanied by other complementary activities, such as body expression, music therapy or laughter therapy. And of course, the parents of the shy child must be an active part of the treatment. A good psychological therapy is useless if the child finds himself in a toxic environment when he gets home.
- Because it is precisely the family environment that is the main trigger for a child’s shyness. Without the necessary positive reinforcement, without the most fundamental affection and without caring for self-esteem on the part of the whole family, the child will not be able to leave behind his shy character and will reach adulthood with endless emotional deficiencies.
