The rarest phobias

Phobias are more common than we think and it is a psychological disorder that causes an irrational and excessive fear of an object or situation. They are completely uncontrollable fears that can cause tremors, dizziness, agitation or panic attacks in the person who suffers from them and, in some cases, can considerably reduce the quality of life. Therefore, to overcome any phobia it is necessary to undergo psychological treatment, with the drawback that there are some phobias that are not well known, not even in the medical environment.

The rarest phobias

  • Some phobias are related to social fears resulting from insecurities or a lack of self esteem. This is the case of Allodoxaphobia, which is the fear of the opinions of others. Autophobia, the fear of oneself, responds to a more intimate and complex disorder and Nostophobia, or the fear of returning home, seems to be the product of a family emotional imbalance.
  • Some phobias such as Eisoptrophobia, or the fear of mirrors, Fronemophobia, which is the fear of thinking, or Hagiophobia, the terror of saints are not surprising. Other fears arise in the sexual sphere, such as Falophobia, which is the fear of an erection, or Onirogmophobia, the fear of wet dreams.
  • We also find some phobias that not only are not as irrational fears as it seems, but that we could just use being a little more sensitive to them, such as Phagophobia, which is the fear of eating, or Dyspophobia, the fear of drinks alcoholic. Others, like Cacophobia or the fear of ugliness and Ritiphobia, the fear of wrinkles, leave us with a bit of curiosity to see their effects.
  • But there are some phobias that have impacted us because we don’t know to what extent these fears can become a problem for the person who suffers from them. We also have our doubts about the professionalism of the doctor who once classified them as diseases. Soceraphobia is the fear of in-laws, Xirophobia, of the barber’s razor, Bogiphobia is the fear of coconuts or boogeymen, and Araquibutyrophobia is the fear of peanut shells.
  • On the other hand, there are some disorders that do not surprise us at all that increase their frequency, such as Ephebiphobia, which is the fear of adolescents. Seeing the level of education of the younger ones, anyone would want to keep their distance. Different is the case of Chrometophobia, an irrational fear of money that we assume will increase due to the lack of habit of handling it. But the phobia that is going to set a trend, especially among the Spanish and Greek population, is Dutchphobia, or panic towards the Germans
