The human being has spent all of history looking for a meaning to his existence, but it seems a difficult question to solve. Thus, we embark on another search that seems easier because it is more restricted, that of being happy, although we are not always successful. Today’s society is realizing how difficult it is to deal with non-material issues and more and more people turn their gaze to Eastern philosophies, which seem to have more answers in the world of spirituality.
What is karma
- Surely you have heard of someone who “has good Karma” because he is doing well in life and has achieved success. You have probably used the word Karma yourself, and yet few people know the true meaning of Karma. Karma is the energy that is generated from our actions, be they physical actions, thoughts or feelings.
- It is a basic element in Hinduism and Buddhism that have penetrated deeply into Western society, always in search of new forms of spirituality that fill our lives considered by many to be empty and too materialistic. Karma is linked to the idea of reincarnation and that eternal life cycle in which we chain one life after another depending on our behavior.
- This means that Karma is a kind of cause-effect in which our actions will have their consequences in this life or in the next. From which it follows that success or happiness depend solely on ourselves and on the appropriateness or not of our actions, thoughts or feelings. In this way, the concept of a superior being that punishes us disappears, being ourselves responsible for our happiness.
Western Karma
- But actually, to understand the concept of Karma, even to accept it as part of our life, it is not necessary to learn Sanskrit or know the basics of Buddhism. Another thing is that we feel like joining this trend of oriental spirituality and we decide to become hermits to try to find ourselves.
- Because in reality, that Karma that Buddhism talks about is also present in Western culture in the form of popular sayings such as the warning “what goes around comes around”, which can be transformed into an open threat with “he who sows winds collects storms”. And we all know the need to maintain a positive attitude so that life shows us its kinder side.
- Action -reaction is something we know well. People with a good heart, who try not to harm others, people who live in respect and tolerance, free from envy, hatred and critical or judgmental attitudes, are much happier and they are said to have good luck.; It is not good luck, good luck we earn it ourselves with our actions.
